History
Originated in Hawaii and evaluated by the University of Hawaii's breeding program, though it was never recommended for release there. Richard Hamilton later sent it to Florida horticulturist Richard Campbell, who introduced it into the Miami-Dade germplasm collections.
Taste profile
A genuinely unusual flavor for a mango - sweet with a resinous spice character and a distinct guava note, plus hints of melon, peach, passion fruit, and even cherry, in firm, fiberless, light-yellow flesh (sometimes with harmless white spots).
Growing habits
A vigorous, spreading tree not suited to small yards. Moderate anthracnose tolerance, and can be slow to bloom reliably in warm winters. Mid-season, ripening mostly in July.
Shipping
Ships reasonably well. Firm flesh and a good shelf life relative to most fiberless varieties make it more forgiving to handle than soft Florida hybrids.
