Selected by the USDA in the 1960s at the Chapman Field research station in Miami-Dade County, likely a seedling of the Ono mango with Southeast Asian heritage. The original tree died in the 1980s, but the variety later gained a following after Fairchild Tropical Garden promoted it as a "Curator's Choice" selection.
Taste profile
Smooth, nearly fiberless, deep orange flesh with a sweet, aromatic flavor and mild acidity - some tasters pick up peach or stone-fruit notes.
Growing habits
A compact, dwarf-leaning tree, roughly 10-15 feet and manageable smaller with pruning - a good container option. One of the earliest-ripening Florida mangoes, often ready by March or April, sometimes with a second flush in June.
