South Florida Backyard Nectar

Mango

Pina Colada

History

Created by Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, Florida, in the early 21st century, a cross between his own Gary and Dot cultivars - part of a broader personal breeding effort in which Zill evaluated thousands of seedlings for distinctive flavor.

Taste profile

True to its name: bright, sweet, and fruity with pineapple-forward flavor that develops coconut notes as it fully ripens, tangier when slightly underripe.

Growing habits

A low-vigor, easy-to-maintain tree, though it shows nutritional deficiencies more readily than most mango cultivars. Mid-season. Fruit is small - usually a half pound or less - so overall yield tends to be modest even in good years.
