History
Also known as Carabao or Manila mango, one of the most important cultivars grown in the Philippines, introduced to Florida from Cuba. Named after the carabao, the native Filipino water buffalo, and listed as the sweetest mango variety in the world by the 1995 Guinness Book of World Records.
Taste profile
Soft, creamy, fiberless flesh with a rich, sweet-tart flavor and an aroma typical of Indochinese mango types - quite different from Indian-type varieties like Haden or Carrie.
Growing habits
A large, vigorous tree well adapted to South Florida, with fruit hanging in clusters along the stem. Long, slender, curved fruit shape. Early-to-mid season, typically June to July.
