South Florida Backyard Nectar

Jaboticaba

Sabara

History

The most widely planted jaboticaba variety for commercial production in South America, and the most common in Florida.

Taste profile

Considered the benchmark jaboticaba flavor - intensely sweet and aromatic, often described as a mix of grape, muscadine, and tropical berry with gentle acidity.

Growing habits

Adapts well to a range of soil conditions. Can flower and fruit 3-4 times a year. Starts fruiting around 10 years of age from seed, faster from grafted stock (6+ years).

Shipping

Does not ship well. Very short shelf life - the fruit ferments within 3-4 days of being picked, so it's best treated as an eat-fresh-or-preserve fruit rather than a shippable one.
