Named for Richard Wilson of Excalibur Nursery. A distant relative of persimmon - not related to white or mamey sapote despite the shared common name.
Taste profile
Known as the "chocolate pudding fruit" - mild and creamy rather than intensely sweet, with notes some describe as cinnamon and allspice. It doesn't taste exactly like chocolate, but has a genuinely pudding-like richness.
Growing habits
A vigorous, dependable, easy-care tree. Fruit ripens late in the year, typically December-January, and must be fully soft and dark before eating - it looks almost bruised at peak ripeness.
