Discovered in Homestead, Florida, in 1932 on the property of J.J.L. Phillips; patented in 1937. A seedling of Waldin, and one of the parent varieties of Oro Negro.
Taste profile
Mild, nutty flavor with a smooth, creamy texture, though lower oil content (around 10-12%) than Guatemalan- or Mexican-type avocados - a lighter eating experience than a Hass.
Growing habits
Type B flowering; a highly productive, consistent commercial cultivar across Florida and Central America. Bushy, medium-vigor tree. Harvest runs November through January.
